When I turned 21 on March 28, 1964, my girlfriends took me out to lunch at Nepenthe. I will never forget that glorious spring day. We sat out on the sunny terrace all afternoon long and chatted as we dined on swiss and rye sandwiches and the famous Nepenthe Bean salad accompanied by a bottle of crisp chilled Chablis. Chablis is still my favorite white wine and I wish it would come back again. Over the years my husband and I have brought many international graduate student officers from the Naval Postgraduate School to lunch at Nepenthe because there is simply nothing else that could possibly compare with the images they take back to their home countries than this ethereal, exquisite spot. Many of our lunch guests get very swept up in the gorgeous scenery, get out their cell phones to immediately send home Nepenthe images to their waiting families. In a little way, someone from around the world, perhaps in Qatar, or Saudi Arabia, or the Ivory Coast or even Mongolia can enjoy a glimpse of Nepenthe, even if they never get to go there.

Brings back old memories. I was a patron during my student days at the Army Language School during 1948-1949. I don't remember the food, only the views and the fireplace. Glad to see that Nepenthe is still thriving.
