Lookiloos Readers Share Tips on Preparing a Guest Room

The results are in and the winner of our Guest Package is TESS!    Congratulations!  Tess is not the only winner, we all are because we have a new list of must do tips to prep for house guests.

Our readers sure do know how to treat their guests (I hope we get invites one day). Thanks for taking part in the give-away.

Here are a few tips we had not included in our original list:

  • Our winner Tess wrote: "I bought a leather bound scrapbook and compiled information about the local area and day trips from our house…To avoid furniture damage, I always scatter coasters about. Photo coasters are a great way to personalize the room with images from guests' previous visit(s) and …The guest towels are top quality, so to keep them from being stained, I always include several individual packets of facial wipes and make-up remover (I learned this lesson the hard way)."  -editor's note:  Make up remover is a great way to preserve your towels! Nice tip.

Mary said, "I like to give the room a bit of a theme, and put clusters of photos and art work all over. Eye candy for the guests!"

  • Jen likes to "Leave tissues, lots of soft towels, lots of pillows (some feather, some not feather since everyone has different tastes in pillows)"  -editors note:  Great Point!
  • Laura from Shore (house) chic wrote "I've also added some fun things, like vintage books I find at yard sales and thrift stores (right now my guest room has a vintage "how to be a good housewife" book from 1950, complete with fabulous photos). I figure it's mindless stuff to flip through while they're laying in bed…a good chuckle before nodding off. :-) "  -editor's note:  Where is the "how to be good husband" issue? :)

Some must dos even when you don't have a lot of money to spend:
"a perfectly made bed" -Olivia
"fresh flowers for our guests" -Leticia, Tech Savvy Mama
"spare (fresh!) toothbrush" -Cat Lincoln

Special thanks to The Maid's Quarters for donating the towels.  You all need to make a visit to this dreamy shop!

I always add a basket filled with goodies, such as chocolate bars, raisins, granola bars, fruits, etc., and I also have big glass jar in the guest bathroom filled with small soaps, shampoos, conditioners, etc. so they can pick out whatever they want to use during their stay.

Chocolate and granola bars – now that is hospitality!
    Thanks for the tip.
